How does the University use the state appropriations that are contributed to its General Education Fund?

The University uses state appropriations to underwrite substantially the cost of education for resident students, and to ensure that Iowans have access to high quality graduate/professional education programs (some of which are ranked among the very best in the United States). For example, state appropriations make it possible for the University to limit the number of non-resident students that enroll in our top quality health care professional education programs. This ensures that Iowans have access to programs such as the MD and medical specialties, speech pathology and audiology (ranked #1 in the country), dentistry and its specialties, advanced nursing, and pharmacy education and practice.
